"Under the Sea" Dress

Designer Andre Van Pier custom-made this beaded, floor-length, long sleeved, “Under the Sea” evening dress worn by Princess Diana. The fabric is an iridescent pale fog blue with silver blue beads, abstract shells, starfish sequins and a pearl-beaded embellished motif. Also features a thigh-high split.

This dress, along with a few others worn by the Princess, were given back to Andre Van Pier by Princess Diana to be part of an exhibit of his garments to be displayed at the Guggenheim in Dubai.  Van Pier’s untimely death in 2008 prevented the completion of the concept and his collection was auctioned off in 2011.

The “Under the Sea” dress was on display at the “Diana Legacy of the Princess” exhibit at the Queen Mary in Long Beach in 2013.
